Empowering Young Women realize their Dreams

Sexual& Reproductive health

Sexual & Reproductive health is a significant barrier to education, health, and economic opportunities for young girls. Early pregnancies often result from lack of education, sexual violence, or poverty, perpetuating cycles of disadvantage.

Our Mission

To combat Sexual & Reproductive health by providing comprehensive education, healthcare access, and social support to empower young girls to make informed choices about their reproductive health, while fostering a supportive environment where they can pursue their education, avoid early marriage, and achieve personal growth.

Our Goal

Delivering age-appropriate sexual education, increasing access to reproductive health services, promoting mentorship and advocacy against child marriage, and providing support for teenage mothers to reintegrate into society through vocational training, childcare support, and counseling services.

At MercyK Services, we address
Sexual & Reproductive health through:

Goal: To equip adolescent girls with the knowledge and confidence they need to make informed choices about their sexual and reproductive health.

  • Age-Appropriate Education: MercyK Services provides sexual education that is tailored to the age and developmental stage of the girls. This ensures that the information is both understandable and relevant to their lives, starting at an early age and building on knowledge as they mature.
  • Culturally Sensitive Curriculum: The education provided respects the cultural norms and values of the community, while also addressing important health information. This approach ensures that the messages are both effective and respectful, fostering open communication between girls, their families, and educators.

Goal: To ensure that young girls, especially those at risk of teenage pregnancy, have access to essential healthcare services that can help them make informed decisions and protect their reproductive health.

  • Contraceptive Access: Providing access to affordable and reliable contraception is critical in preventing unintended pregnancies. MercyK Services ensures that girls have access to a range of contraceptive options and are educated about their use, side effects, and effectiveness.
  • Prenatal and Postnatal Care: For those who do become pregnant, MercyK Services ensures that they have access to quality prenatal care to monitor the health of both the mother and baby. Postnatal care is equally important to ensure a safe recovery for the young mother and proper care for the newborn.

Goal: To inspire and guide young girls, helping them understand the importance of education, personal growth, and staying focused on their future aspirations.

  • Mentor Pairing: MercyK Services pairs girls with older female mentors who provide guidance, support, and encouragement. These mentors serve as role models, helping girls navigate challenges and providing advice on a range of topics from education to career choices and relationships.
  • Prioritizing Education: One of the key messages in the mentorship program is the importance of education. Mentors work with girls to set academic goals, assist with schoolwork, and highlight the long-term benefits of finishing school, particularly in terms of economic independence and empowerment.

Goal: To protect girls from child marriages and ensure that they have the right to education and opportunities to achieve their full potential.

  • Raising Awareness: MercyK Services works within communities to raise awareness about the harmful effects of child marriage, including the health risks for young girls, such as early pregnancy and maternal mortality, as well as the social and economic disadvantages, such as limited educational opportunities and the perpetuation of poverty.
  • Community Engagement: Through community outreach, MercyK Services involves local leaders, religious groups, and other influencers in the fight against child marriage. These collaborations help to shift cultural norms that may condone child marriage and encourage communities to value girls’ rights to education, health, and safety.

Goal: To assist young mothers in overcoming the challenges of early parenthood by providing them with the skills and resources necessary to thrive personally and professionally.

  • Vocational Training: MercyK Services provides teenage mothers with the opportunity to gain vocational skills that can lead to income-generating activities. This training can help them achieve financial independence, which is crucial for breaking the cycle of poverty and ensuring that they can care for their children.
  • Childcare Support: Recognizing that young mothers often face challenges balancing education or work with childcare, MercyK Services offers support such as daycare services or financial assistance for childcare, allowing mothers to continue their education or work without the stress of childcare responsibilities.
